“Natalie’s basically set herself up for this,” Isabella said, shaking her head. “She deserves every bit of it. For the longest time, I thought Jordan was the loyal type. Mandy could throw herself at him all she wanted, but I figured nothing would come between him and his wife. Turns out I was dead wrong. Like father, like son, those genes really don’t lie.”
“With the Lane family, Natalie’s life can’t be easy. Her husband cheated, her in-laws aren’t on her side, she’s got a rival living under her roof, and even little Kevin’s scheming all the time.”
“I’ll be shocked if she stays married to Jordan for another two years. Honestly, she’s not the kind who can swallow her pride for long.”
“If Ethan had just accepted her, she probably would’ve already filed for divorce. She went to his place in the middle of the night, dressed to kill, trying to throw herself right into his arms. Ethan… he’s no saint, but he’s got standards.”
“He knows where the line is. He loves Natalie, sure, but she’s married to Jordan now, so he won’t even touch her. Her throwing herself at him scared him off.”
“She was always perfect in Ethan’s eyes, but that night shattered everything he believed about her. After that, he got over her faster than any of us could’ve imagined.”
Cynthia just stared. She had no idea Natalie was like that.
“Even if she does divorce Jordan, getting married again isn’t going to be easy unless she leaves town. No one in our circle would want her. People will always talk about her past with Ethan and her failed marriage to Jordan.”
After a pause, Cynthia finally spoke. “She’s only got herself to blame. Let’s just watch from the sidelines; no need to get involved.”
Cynthia sighed. “You’ve been divorced for a long time, and now you’ve accepted Harold. Whatever Ethan’s dealing with is for him to figure out. It’ll hurt for a while, but he’ll move on eventually. None of this is on you. He’s the one who messed up. I just hope when he’s ready to find someone new, he doesn’t repeat his mistakes. Isabella, you should get some rest. I’m heading to bed too.”
Cynthia stood up, knowing her daughter was exhausted, and told her to get some sleep.
Isabella got up to see her mother out. Once her mom left, she shut the door quietly and stepped out onto the balcony for a moment. She didn’t bother sitting back down. Instead, she picked up the courier envelope, went inside, and sat down at her dressing table.
She checked the envelope. There was no real return address, half the phone number was missing, and there wasn’t even a sender’s name.
