The vase shattered against Julius’s back. He let out a pained grunt and staggered, his body unsteady.
Just as Janina’s cleaver was about to fall on him, a figure burst through the door.
“Julius!”
Yvonne’s face went pale with terror when she saw Janina about to strike Julius with the cleaver. Five or six security guards followed her in, quickly surrounding Janina. Yvonne rushed to Julius’s side, supporting him, her face filled with distress.
Then, her eyes red, she turned to Janina. “How could you try to kill someone? Can’t you talk things out? You were married once, for God’s sake. What kind of hatred would make you treat Julius like this?”
As she spoke, tears streamed down Yvonne’s face, her voice choked with sobs.
“If hitting someone will make you feel better, Miss Holt, then hit me. Come and cut me instead. Julius is too important to be harmed. So many people at Aurelius Group depend on him. If anything happens to him, what will become of all these employees?”
“I don’t know what happened between you and Julius, but I know the kind of person he is. Miss Holt, do you have some misunderstanding about him? I’m begging you, for the sake of all those employees, please put the knife down.”
“Please, I’m begging you, don’t hurt Julius.”
Yvonne’s words were earnest, her posture one of righteous self-sacrifice, but the look she gave Janina was overflowing with malice.
