But he had suddenly dumped this massive mess entirely in her lap!
And then he simply vanished.
He didn't even care what happened to his own family anymore; he just tossed everything her way and bolted.
Herbert said nothing.
He just sat there, staring intensely at her.
"Alright, alright," she said, "the minute we drag him back, we finalize it. No delays, okay?"
"Promise?"
"Promise. The priority right now is finding him."
She was going to die of anger.
She truly couldn't fathom why he would pull a stunt like this. That utter scumbag.
Seeing her try to placate him, his expression softened slightly.
"But seriously, why did he do this? We are completely in the dark here."
This sudden curveball had completely baffled everyone.
Right now, neither she nor Herbert had a clue what was going through his head.
"Do you think it's because he found out about your connection to the Hoggart family?" he asked.
"That's unlikely, isn't it?" she mused.
Judging by his behavior over the past few months, there was no way he could have known.
"He always assumed you were my backer, or that Kael Shipley had some sort of relationship with me."
Honestly, with the way his brain worked, who knew what absurd conclusions he had drawn.
But it was normal for him to make such assumptions!
After all...
Out of all the possibilities, the idea that she was the cherished little princess of the Hoggart family was the absolute hardest to believe.
"So, am I your backer?" he asked smoothly.
"Huh?"
The sudden shift in conversation caught her completely off guard.
He gave her hand a gentle squeeze.
"Oh, uh, yes, yes. In Marina City, you are."
He was acting strange.
