A Widow's Poison A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 665

Hearing Starla point this out, Garret frowned in confusion.

Why hadn't Felix taken Brinley and the baby with him?

"I get leaving Brinley behind," Starla continued. "She's a pariah right now. But the baby is supposedly his."

So why leave his own flesh and blood behind?

"Could it be... the kid isn't actually Felix's?" Garret ventured.

Starla paused for a moment, rolling the thought over in her mind, then shook her head. "No, that's impossible."

"If it wasn't his, why would he be fighting so aggressively to keep it alive?"

Even though she hadn't heard exactly what Felix said to Brinley on the phone, Brinley's terrified reactions made it clear: Felix was practically driving her to the brink of death just to ensure the child survived.

"I'm not entirely sure, then," Garret admitted. "Should I dig a little deeper?"

"Do it," Starla nodded.

Garret was right. The bizarre behavior from both Felix and Brinley strongly suggested there was a missing piece to this puzzle. Things were getting far more intriguing than she originally thought.

She had assumed that once the baby's true paternity was exposed, the drama would naturally conclude.

But looking at it now, the waters ran much deeper than she had realized.

...

After giving Garret his instructions, Starla headed upstairs to her study. Shortly after, Fairfax came down. He looked fully awake, clearly having been up for a while.

Despite the explosive argument between Brinley and Starla earlier, Fairfax hadn't intervened or even made an appearance. It was obvious that after learning the harsh truth yesterday, he couldn't bring himself to face Starla.
