A Widow's Poison A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 654

He was done talking. Darian swore to himself right then and there: if Fairfax ever called to grab drinks again, the answer was a hard, resounding no. The man was drowning his regrets about Starla in a sea of alcohol, but the people keeping him company were the ones enduring the actual punishment.

With no other choice, Caden and Darian gritted their teeth and hauled Fairfax out of the car.

Draping his arms over their shoulders, they began the miserable trudge forward. Fairfax was still mumbling in his sleep. "Starla... Starla..."

Caden and Darian just rolled their eyes. Keep calling her name, they thought. She literally just told us to toss you in the gutter.

As the trio stumbled past the gates, the security guards watched in amusement. One of them pulled out his phone and texted Garret, chuckling, "Guess getting wasted is the only way he can cope with the boss's wrath."

...

Back in Starla's bedroom, Tanya grinned. "If Herbert knew how you were treating Fairfax tonight, he'd be absolutely thrilled."

"Stop reporting every little detail of my life to Herbert!" Starla warned.

"I don't! He just told me to keep you company!"

Starla gave her a look. Keep her company every single night? More like act as a human shield against Fairfax. Not that she needed one. Given the current state of their marriage, no one needed to guard her from him.

"Why did he drink so much anyway?" Tanya asked, genuinely curious.

"Because he finally realized why I'm destroying his precious family," Starla replied coolly.

"He knows?"

Starla nodded. "Yes. Which means whatever is left between us will be officially over by tomorrow at the earliest."

"And at the latest?"

Starla paused. "There isn't much time left, regardless."
