Xenia, hearing Starla's outrageous demand, gritted her teeth in fury. "You want the estate too? You're deliberately trying to leave us with nothing!"
"That's right," Starla confirmed, her ambition laid bare without any pretense. "I want you to have nothing."
She was so brazen, so openly arrogant in front of Xenia.
Xenia's already pale face flushed with rage. Still weak from a recent fever, she felt a wave of dizziness wash over her, nearly making her faint.
"You... you venomous—" She bit back the word 'bitch' as she caught sight of one of the tall, formidable maids from Yoran Country standing nearby. The memory of being slapped by one of them, the force so strong it felt like her brain was rattling in her skull, was still fresh.
The Xenia who was once so arrogant toward Starla was now forced to exercise extreme restraint. She prayed every day for a chance to turn the tables. When that day came, she would crush Starla under her foot with even greater ruthlessness, making her taste the same helpless despair.
Seeing Xenia swallow her words, the smile on Starla's lips widened. "I'm a venomous what?"
Xenia remained silent. Starla knew perfectly well what she was.
"I just don't want you to betray Herbert's feelings," Xenia finally managed, her voice trembling. The injustice of it all overwhelmed her. She couldn't continue this conversation; she was afraid she would lose control and only bring more suffering upon herself.
With that, Xenia turned and fled.
Starla merely scoffed.
