A Widow's Poison A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 647

Darian was slightly less dramatic. As long as they were just having a drink and not plotting against Starla, he figured she wouldn't try to ruin them.

Fairfax shot Caden a dark, irritable glare. "Coward."

"Look, Starla is out for blood right now," Caden defended himself. "We can't afford to get caught in the crossfire."

Her warpath was more terrifying than a corporate takeover.

Seeing his friends genuinely terrified of his wife brought a bitter smile to Fairfax's lips. "Relax. I'm not going to drag you down with me."

"As long as you don't ask for a favor, we're good," Caden said bluntly.

The Yelchin family was in ruins. Harley and Annika were basically stranded without a roof over their heads. Fairfax needed a mountain of favors right now, but Caden and Darian wouldn't touch this mess with a ten-foot pole.

"Favors," Fairfax chuckled darkly, the bitterness expanding in his chest. "She's playing for keeps this time."

The utter ruthlessness Starla was displaying was something he had never seen before.

He downed his drink in one swallow.

Caden and Darian exchanged a look, at a loss for words.

They had warned him repeatedly in the past, but he hadn't listened. Now, the damage was done. The only thing left to offer was comfort, but when it came to his situation with Starla, comforting words simply didn't exist.

"So, you finally figured out why she's going scorched earth?" Darian asked.

Fairfax hadn't called them here to rant and rave like he usually did. The absence of his explosive anger meant he had finally hit the bedrock of truth. If he hadn't, he would be drinking to fuel his rage, not to drown his sorrow.
