Yvan took a few steps back, and Rachel wheeled forward, her eyes brimming with longing for Yvan. "Yvan, do you...?"
Carl couldn't stand it any longer and stepped forward to intervene. "Miss Rachel, I'm sorry, but Mr. Boyd has suffered some memory loss due to an accident. So, he might occasionally forget things from the past."
Rachel's expression froze, amnesia?
Did that mean all those memories of Yvan adoring and loving her were gone too?!
Panic set in for Rachel. No, that couldn't be. Yvan still held her in his heart; he just couldn't remember for now. Given time and being together again, all those tender moments would surely return!
Rachel looked up, locking eyes with Yvan again, "Yvan, it doesn't matter whether you remember or not. Every moment of our past, every second, I remember for you. They are precious memories to me, forever engraved in my heart."
Such a heartfelt confession.
It portrayed Rachel's boundless love, enough to make any onlooker shed tears of empathy.
And yet.
Yvan remained indifferent.
"Oh."
…
Silence enveloped them.
An eerie stillness.
Rachel's lips moved, probably wanting to say something else, but then she burst into tears, "Yvan, you've forgotten me completely..."
Yvan frowned, "I've even forgotten my parents."
Yvan murmured softly, "Was it you?"
A glint of hope flashed in Rachel's eyes. The way Yvan looked at her now, it was as if he was looking at someone else!
But now, with Yvan's memory gone, he didn't remember who had painstakingly practiced making perfectly runny sunny-side-up eggs for him. Rachel's words alone stirred his confusion.
Seizing the moment, Rachel firmly claimed, "It was me, Yvan."
Yvan's brows knitted together in disbelief, as if the woman in his memories didn't match Rachel's face. But if not Rachel, then who?
Rachel quickly added, "Don't you remember? Who else knows your likes and dislikes? We grew up together, childhood sweethearts."
"Childhood sweethearts," such an evocative term.
Yvan accepted Rachel's lunch, muttering a thank you, but something felt off, and he couldn't put his finger on what was wrong.
