A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 717

Chloe slumped on the couch, disbelief painting her features, "It's just surreal, Yvan isn't dead..."

After marveling at the thought for what seemed like ages, she suddenly sprang up, grabbing Matilda by the shoulders, "So he's back, did he do anything to you?"

The mark of true friendship is concern, even if momentarily distracted by other matters, the primary concern was Matilda's well-being, "Did he treat you like trash again? I should've known something was up when you came home so late today, but Yvan's return... that I did not see coming."

Listening to Chloe's rapid-fire questions, Matilda couldn't help but laugh, "I'm fine, really. Do I look troubled to you?"

Chloe scrutinized Matilda from head to toe, as if checking whether a prized possession had been tampered with, all the while insisting, "I don't buy it. Yvan, with his temper, probably couldn't wait to throw a few sarcastic jabs your way the moment he saw you. It's like these guys, can't go a day without being snarky."

Matilda chuckled; Chloe had Yvan's number alright.

"He's got amnesia."

It was only after the laughter subsided that Matilda shared this bombshell, "He's forgotten all about us."

This revelation hit Chloe and the others like a ton of bricks, leaving them dumbfounded, unable to fathom such an extraordinary turn of events.

Yvan... Yvan has amnesia? So, it's not that he chose not to return, but rather, he forgot he had a life here, including the Boyd Group, and that Matilda and the rest were waiting for him.

Chloe felt for Matilda, "It's always you who ends up getting the short end of the stick. I can't stand to see this."

Indeed, throughout this entire ordeal, Matilda had always been the innocent party, never at fault, yet always bearing the heaviest burdens.

"You didn't have to take over the Boyd family for Yvan in the first place." Chloe held Matilda's hand, "You could've just taken Logan and left. What do the Boyd family's fortunes have to do with you? Why dive into this mess?

Yvan owed you his life, he even caused you to lose a child. Why should his death obligate you to manage the Boyd family? It's moral blackmail! By dying, he essentially cleared his slate, forcing you into a corner. If you didn't step up, you'd be labeled heartless and ruthless.

But those armchair critics... Have they ever considered things from your perspective? From start to finish, you've been the victim."
