A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 685

Matilda was at a loss for words, torn between revealing the events of the day or keeping them to herself to spare her companions any further stress. She nervously fidgeted with her clothes, clearly agitated.

Adrian was even more on edge. When the elevator reached their floor, he practically dragged her out, with Logan jogging a few steps behind to keep up. At this moment, Adrian was visibly furious. Seeing Matilda return in the middle of the night in this state set his imagination ablaze with the worst scenarios.

What could possibly require a change of clothes?!

Noticing Matilda's hair was still damp, Adrian's mind raced with possibilities. Did she fall into a pool? Or... was she with another man, taking a shower in a hotel room?

The thought of Matilda in distress or danger infuriated him, but the possibility of her being with someone else made his blood boil. He swiftly unlocked their door, barely allowing Logan to step inside before slamming it shut behind them.

"Adrian? Adrian!" Logan knocked on the door, pleading to be let in.

Inside, Adrian's anger was palpable. He pushed Matilda onto the bed, his handsome face twisted in uncontrollable rage. He felt as if he was using every ounce of his strength to stay calm, but the sight of Matilda's disheveled appearance pushed him over the edge.

"Who was it?"

His piercing blue-green eyes reflected Matilda's panic-stricken face as she struggled beneath him. "Wait... let me up!"

"Tell me who it was!" Adrian yelled hysterically. "Why did you change clothes? Who were you with... did something happen? Matilda, you need to tell me..."

Pain filled Matilda's eyes. "You're angry and not thinking straight, Adrian. I understand that. But I didn't..."

Adrian couldn't wait for her to finish. He leaned down and kissed her fiercely, overwhelmed by his emotions. He had a chance to earn her trust before, to make his way into her heart, but ever since Yvan's death, she had shut everyone out, freezing her heart to any new affection.

He was filled with rage and resentment.

Matilda pushed Adrian away, her eyes wide with shock. The memory of a recent encounter, where she felt threatened and vulnerable, seemed to resurface, sending shivers down her spine. "What are you trying to do?"

"Matilda, Yvan's gone. Can't I be the one?" Adrian asked, frustration etching his features. "Why can't it be me, Matilda? Yvan is dead..."
