"Is that really Yvan?" Adrian hurried along with Matilda, his voice tinged with urgency. They both needed answers, yet neither could provide them.
Matilda sighed, "Honestly, even I'm not sure."
It was Yvan's face, alright, but the personality... utterly different. Could a person's core change with amnesia? Or was he so unfamiliar because he wasn't Yvan at all?
"I never expected to encounter... such a version of Yvan."
Adrian was clearly still reeling, "I thought he... he was dead."
"So did I." Matilda moved toward the center of the hall. "Because when they brought back the body that day, we were all at the airport waiting... why..."
"Let's start eliminating possibilities then."
Adrian guided her to a couch on the side, where a waiter brought them two glasses of juice. "Thanks," Adrian murmured.
"What about Logan?"
"Mr. Avice took him out to entertain some clients."
Adrian pointed out the location, "Over there, don't worry."
Matilda finally relaxed, took a sip of her juice, and turned to Adrian, "What do you make of all this?"
Caught off-guard by Matilda's question, Adrian took a moment before he replied, "To me, whether Yvan comes back or not doesn't really matter."
Matilda's expression darkened.
Adrian paused, his voice husky, "I can't imagine, if Yvan never returns... how you're supposed to wait alone until you're old... how are you supposed to live like that..."
Just the thought brought tears to Matilda's eyes. If Yvan never returned, she would be stuck in this position for life, waiting forever for a shadow that would never return, guarding the legacy of the Boyd family.
How was she, a woman, supposed to live her days like that...
Adrian watched her, conflicted, "Matilda, I'm torn. I don't want Yvan to come back at all, yet I can't help wishing he would."
To set you free, to liberate you from this endless waiting, so we can both move on, owing nothing.
Matilda blinked back her tears, managing a smile for Adrian, attempting to change the subject, "Why get all sentimental out of the blue?"
