"Rachel's kid is yours."
Yvan dropped the bombshell, leaving Adrian rooted to the spot, as if struck by lightning, murmuring in disbelief, "What did you say?"
"Rachel's child is yours," Yvan repeated, his tone even colder than before. "Pity, the kid's got the Boyd surname."
Adrian felt a sudden urge to splash the drink from his glass right into the smug man's face.
"Are you serious?" Adrian's voice trembled, his native English slipping through. "God, I didn't even know she was pregnant."
"Congratulations to you, and to me as well. She knew she was pregnant and then trapped me into a one-night stand, making me believe the child was mine," Yvan said with a mocking edge. "Nice, isn't it? Your kid, my surname. Makes you wonder which one of us is the real fool."
The absurdity of it all was somehow hilarious. Both of them were played by Rachel.
"Why didn't you confront her?"
"Because Rachel alone couldn't pull this off," Yvan frowned. "She's got someone backing her, and I plan to draw them out."
"Tsk." Adrian stood up suddenly, "I want to see my daughter."
"Too bad, she calls me daddy."
"You son of a..." Adrian lunged forward, grabbing Yvan by the collar. "Why didn't you tell me sooner? Huh? I'm going to get a paternity test!"
"How did you find out?" Adrian poured himself a drink. "Rachel showed up with the kid claiming she was yours. Given how you initially trusted her blindly, you shouldn't have had any doubts."
Yvan poured himself a drink and clinked glasses with him. "It's hard to see clearly when you're in the thick of it. I never doubted Lynn's paternity because the one-night stand Rachel orchestrated made me believe I had been with her, so having a child didn't seem strange."
Pausing, the man continued, "But Declan, an outsider to our and Rachel's story, noticed right away that Lynn looked like you. So, I did some digging..."
Adrian cradled his head in frustration. "It's over. If Matilda finds out I have a child with Rachel, I can kiss my chances with her goodbye."
Yvan's expression suddenly changed, his voice rising, "You still dare to pine for Matilda?!"
