A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 519

He snapped back to reality almost instantaneously, spotting Logan and Godfrey not far off, staring at him with utter bewilderment. Logan stuttered, “...Mr. Boyd?! What are you still doing here?”

Godfrey, equally startled, watched as bits of slush fell from Yvan's face, his expression turning as frosty and unnerving as if it were coated in a layer of ice.

Godfrey shrank back a little, “What are you doing here?”

Yvan reached through the car window, pulled out a napkin, and wiped his face before eyeing Godfrey, “Why can’t I be here?”

Godfrey, treading lightly, “You didn’t get hurt, did you?”

But before Godfrey could finish, that same plucky little girl who had hit Logan with a snowball, lobbed another one, splatting it right into Yvan’s face.

Yvan: “...”

Godfrey and Logan, trapped between fear and amusement, finally couldn’t hold back and burst into laughter, falling back into the snow.

Yvan thought grimly, Where’s my knife? I want to teach these kids a lesson!

That dauntless little girl approached again, tugging at Yvan’s coat, “Why aren’t you playing, mister? Come join us!”

Before Yvan could gather his wits, he was dragged into the fray, pelted by a barrage of snowballs. Surrounded by kids, he found himself dodging in vain, a sight that made even Logan, who was used to seeing Yvan in control, crack a smile.

As Yvan looked up, Godfrey, emboldened, hurled a solid snowball at him, yelling, “Take that!”

“Yeah, let go.”

Embarrassed, especially in front of Yvan, Logan’s face turned beet red, frustration bubbling up as he flung a handful of loose snow at Godfrey, “Stop laughing!”

Godfrey dodged and ran, utterly heedless of Yvan still being there. Soon, it escalated into a full-blown snowball war that lasted nearly an hour, leaving everyone exhausted and gasping for air in the snow.

With the snow piling up continuously and showing no sign of stopping, Logan lay next to Godfrey, “I’m beat, but this was so much fun.”

Glancing back at Yvan, who’d retreated to the car for a break, Godfrey sensed that even Yvan had let loose today, “How are things with your dad?”

Logan frowned, “Let’s not go there.”
