A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 394

Chloe glanced back at Declan with a defiant look, silencing everyone in the room. Esme, sensing the laser pointer aimed at her forehead, stammered, "You... you're really pushing your luck!"

"Exactly." Declan chuckled, hands in his pockets. "Who asked you to slander me? Chloe, you witch, come over here and see for yourself who kidnapped Matilda!"

Chloe, staying by Matilda's side, for the first time yelled back at him, "Back off! I'm taking care of Matilda, I don't have time for this!"

Matilda was pale, her back soaked in blood. Helping her up, Chloe asked Carl, "When can we take Matilda to the hospital? She looks... she looks bad."

Matilda gasped in pain and turned to Esme, more curious about who was repeatedly trying to kill her than about her pain.

"Do you know who made the deal with Hadrian?"

Her gaze fixed tightly on Esme's face. Despite the laser pointer on her forehead, Esme did not panic. Seeing Matilda stand, she sneered, "Deal? You? What do you think you are?"

It was clear Esme knew nothing, believing Matilda was just another woman Hadrian brought back, feeling threatened and hence, arranging her humiliation.

Matilda trembled with rage. "When is Hadrian coming back?"

"Waiting for the boss to return?" Esme laughed arrogantly. "When he returns, it will be your doom!"

"Chloe!"

Declan was busy making a call when Godfrey charged towards Chloe and Matilda, "Watch out!"

Chloe sidestepped, holding Matilda close, back-to-back with Godfrey. In that moment, they entrusted their lives to each other. "Don't get hurt..."

Before she could finish, someone swung a bat at Chloe. Declan's eyes widened. Snatching a gun from his man, he shot the attacker, filled with lethal intent. "Damn it, when will you learn your lesson!"

Declan rarely cursed, but he was truly enraged. "Want the Jungle Union wiped out today? Your wish is my command!"
