The next day, Godfrey headed straight to his dad's office, while Matilda, after dropping Logan off at school, decided to stay home.
While tidying up, she noticed her tablet and a mechanical keyboard were missing. These weren't items she used daily, but today, she realized they were nowhere to be found.
Could she have left them at their old place in Sea City?
Puzzled, Matilda sighed. Being in Why City now, even if she had left them behind, going back to Sea City to retrieve them wasn't an option.
"Well, I guess that's that," she thought. The tablet was mostly for gaming anyway, and she could always buy a new keyboard if needed.
Meanwhile, at school, Logan took advantage of nap time to sneak into the bathroom with his backpack. He pulled out the tablet and keyboard, connected them via Bluetooth, and then put on his anti-radiation glasses. Sitting on the closed toilet lid, he began to type fervently.
He coded and deleted, hitting a snag that seemed insurmountable. When he couldn't figure it out, he turned to an online forum, where he encountered a mysterious user with penetrating insights into the weaknesses of his program. Logan found this person intriguing, so he signed up to message them, asking how to breach a particular firewall code.
Fifteen minutes later, the mysterious online hacker replied, "Wow, you're good! You found the flaws in the firewall I designed?"
Turns out, the program was his creation...
"Logan: Hehe."
Logan, frustrated, managed to regain some control over his computer, typing out on the screen — "Creepy man, that's not cool. I'm the future of our nation."
"Sure, sure, the future of our nation messing around with hacking, huh?" The man on the other end laughed. "Why don't you come visit me abroad sometime? You seem like a fun kid. It'd be even better if you wore a skirt."
Imagining himself in pigtails and a skirt, Logan felt a shiver of disgust. His voice hadn't deepened yet, making it hard to distinguish between male and female over the mic, and the hacker's sleazy laughter only intensified the chills down his spine. "Just release my computer. I want to work this out myself."
"Alright, I'll consider this your assignment. Solve it. I've unlocked the keyboard for you, so you can try hacking into the system to free your computer yourself."
