“Make it again? Was it too sweet or the flavor wrong? I followed Freya’s steps exactly, and the amount of sugar was correct. It shouldn’t have been a problem.”

“I’m not sure,” Chad said, not offering much help.

Sherry had to make another cup. She was nervous, and this time, Matteo didn’t try to taste it but only smelled it and put it down immediately, asking Chad, “What’s going on here?”

“Secretary Sherry may be nervous since it’s her first time making coffee for you. She probably didn’t get the right temperature…”

Matteo frowned. “Secretary Sherry? What about Freya?”

Chad froze. “Freya has already left the company. Didn’t you know?”

Matteo fell silent.

He hadn’t known.
