Vivian felt her heart racing a little. "Um… did I sleep for a long time?"
The dim light inside the carriage hinted at dusk. As their eyes met, the silence between them grew heavy, as if they could hear each other's heartbeat.
The fading light masked the flicker of greed and desire in Manfred's gaze. His voice came out low and slightly hoarse. "You slept for about four hours. I even thought you might be unwell."
"Four hours? I'm fine. I just feel a bit groggy and weak." Vivian sat up. She could feel her body wasn't quite back to its full strength yet. It was likely the lingering effects of the fever she'd had before seeking out Manfred, but she brushed the thought aside.
"Now that we're at the inn, how about we get off the carriage and rest for a bit? Are you hungry?" Manfred asked softly.
Vivian shook her head. "Not really. Let's just get off."
Maybe it was because she had just woken up, so she didn't feel hungry.
Though she wasn't hungry, his question reminded her that she'd only had breakfast, skipping lunch due to her nap. Despite this, she felt no appetite.
Stepping down from the carriage, they immediately entered the inn. Inside, Manfred requested dinner from the innkeeper.
The meal was basic, reflecting the town's size and the inn's simple setup. Run by an elderly couple, the inn lacked a dedicated chef or waitstaff, offering only a modest three dishes and a soup.
Although the dishes looked simple, they were fragrant and appetizing. "When we get to Hubril in a couple of days, I'll take you to Parlay Restaurant. It's the best place in Hubril, and the food there is exceptional. You'll love it," Manfred said, noticing that Vivian seemed lost in thought as she looked at the homey, simple dishes.
He assumed she didn't particularly enjoy them.
Vivian's eyes lit up. "Parlay Restaurant? I think I've heard your people mention it before."
"Yes, they were talking about the same place." Manfred nodded.
Vivian felt excited. She didn't know why, but today she hadn't felt hungry. Still, not wanting Manfred to worry, she ate a little and had soup.
