Rebecca’s assistant didn’t have a clue, but Rebecca wasn’t ready to give up. She was determined to have a “chance encounter” with Phoenix YC.
That evening, she barely touched her dinner. Instead, she spent ages perfecting her makeup and hair, then made her way to the hotel lobby, hoping to just happen to run into Phoenix YC.
She waited until nine o’clock, but not a single person who even remotely resembled Phoenix YC walked by.
Not only did she fail to bump into Phoenix YC—
She ran into someone she never expected: Anthea.
Rebecca frowned. What was Anthea doing here? Was there some new RealTimeFlow event in town?
But then she remembered—next time they met, she and Anthea would be living in completely different worlds. The thought put a gleam of satisfaction in her eyes.
. . .
That night, after everyone else had gone to bed, Anthea was still awake, sitting at her desk in a silk camisole nightgown, busy at her computer.
In front of her, along with her laptop, floated a translucent screen. Her fingers tapped rapidly across its surface.
She was preparing to destroy the cheat system inside Rebecca.
It made sense—Anthea was the original creator of the cheat system, so she knew all its weaknesses. The problem was, writing a self-destruct program for it was a real headache.
Not until three-thirty in the morning did Anthea finally shut down her computer and crawl into bed.
Before she knew it, the sun was up.
To welcome technology experts from around the globe, the main streets of Capital City were blocked off. Helicopters thundered overhead. Police sirens wailed in the distance.
Rebecca was up at five, getting ready for the day. Foundation, lipstick, eyeshadow, false lashes—she didn’t skip a single step. She styled her hair into an elegant updo worthy of a princess.
To make sure her figure didn’t go unnoticed, she picked out a long, form-fitting dress in vibrant scarlet.
Today, she would be the center of attention.
She slipped on her heels and swept out of the hotel. A chauffeured car was already waiting.
