The Second Life of a Discarded Heiress (Citrine) novel Chapter 761

Citrine let out a sharp, mocking laugh. “You can dress yourselves up all you want, but it doesn’t hide how desperately sycophantic you both are.”

She glanced at Wade with warmth in her eyes. “My brother is a Saunders. If he wants, C. Corp is as much his as anyone’s. He never has to worry about his future—our family will always have his back.”

“And as for your claim that he’s done nothing with his life—well, from what I know, Wade’s won more than his fair share of racing championships. Not long ago, he even beat Jonah at Skysunder Ridge. He’s talented. If you think that makes him useless, then what does that make the Jonah who lost to him? Trash?”

Wade blinked, his eyes suddenly misty.

In all these years, no one had ever stood up for him so openly, right in front of everyone.

He might act carefree and irreverent, but deep down, Wade was just a boy who longed to be loved.

The Blacks’ faces twisted with embarrassment and anger, neither managing to say a word.

Both of them turned to Jonah, their voices anxious. “Mr. Griffin, we swear we didn’t mean anything by it.”

But Jonah didn’t so much as glance their way. The moment Citrine had spoken up, his attention had been fixed entirely on her.

Seeing Jonah remain silent, the Blacks panicked, falling over themselves to explain. “Mr. Griffin, really, we meant nothing by it—please, don’t be upset!”

Jonah just felt annoyed. He stood, pushing past the Blacks with irritation.

He’d always thought the pair were pathetic brown-nosers—they were exhausting to be around. With a snap of impatience, he barked, “Get out of my way. Stop bothering me.”

He straightened his jacket and, with a hint of awkwardness, turned to Citrine. “What are you doing here?”

Ever since he’d learned she’d saved him by sending the Skysunder Ridge patrol, Jonah hadn’t been able to keep up his cold front with Citrine.

And now that he knew she was the legendary racer at Skysunder Ridge, he couldn’t help but admire her—though pride wouldn’t let him show it.

“Wade’s my brother. Why wouldn’t I be here?” Citrine replied, matching his bluntness. She knew Jonah had a grudge against Wade, so she made no effort to be polite.
