Finally, her boyfriend, red with embarrassment, came over and dragged her away.
Ivy was still in awe. Could someone actually become her fan?
Were they enchanted by the character she played on screen or by Ivy herself, the actress?
The couple continued their animated discussion about Ivy long after they had left:
"She smells amazing, and it’s like it's her natural scent. Oh man, I love Ivy!"
Her boyfriend had grown accustomed to his girlfriend's celebrity obsession and even engaged seriously in the conversation about their first impression of her.
"She's definitely gorgeous."
"Right? I told you!"
Ivy, just by standing there, exuded a natural ease, soft and unassuming, like an elegant lotus standing tall or a pearl that should be cherished in the palm of one's hand.
Compliments always have a way of lifting one's spirits!
Leaving the bookstore with a spring in her step, Ivy felt at ease, even as she walked through the alley she normally dreaded.
But nobody could have predicted the mishap that was about to happen.
Before she could react, a pair of hands from behind clamped over her mouth and nose with a cloth that reeked of chemicals. Within three seconds, her consciousness slipped away.
The shadowy figure swiftly dragged Ivy to a waiting van parked curbside and sped off into the night.
On the ground lay the book Ivy had just bought.
"Boss, how much are we getting for catching this chick? After all, she's a celeb. I saw her in the news just a while back."
One of the thugs casually lifted Ivy's arm, remarking with ill intent, "Wow, what's with her skin? It's like baby skin!"
The man they called Boss slapped his hand away.
