Leda's hand darted out in a fury, slapping Daniel across the face several times.
Daniel’s tears welled up from the sting of her blows, and he pushed her away, only to be yanked back and brutally thrown onto the coffee table.
"Daniel!" Nova’s scream rang through the room, her little face turning pale with fright.
Only then did Leda realize she had gone too far. Releasing her grip, she watched as Nova stumbled towards Daniel, who was then lying on the floor.
Daniel had hit his head on the corner of the table, and blood was pouring out of the wound. Nova, her hands shaking, pressed a hand to his forehead, trying to stem the flow. Tears streamed down her face. "Granny, call an ambulance!"
The housemaid, who rushed in upon hearing the commotion, saw the scene and immediately reached for her phone to dial 911.
"Wait…"
Leda stopped her. "Don't call an ambulance. Throw this child out!"
She thought, “If Isaac's kid dies, there will be no loss for her.”
The housemaid knew about the feud between Leda and Isaac, but what did the child have to do with it? She hesitated.
"Ma'am, this isn't right..."
"If you don't want to throw him out, then you can get out!"
Fearing for her job, the housemaid complied, picking up Daniel.
"Granny, save Daniel..."
Nova tried to follow, her steps shaky and unsteady, but Leda grabbed her. "Nova, if you dare to breathe a word about this, I'll lock you in the basement and never let you out!"
Nova shivered, tears welling up in her eyes.
"Granny, don't lock me in the basement, please. I am scared."
Leda was satisfied. "Good girl, listen to me. Or the basement will be your new home."
Nova didn't dare to speak anymore.
Brittany bit her lip, tears streaming down her face, as she held Daniel tighter, not daring to cry out loud.
Upon reaching the hospital, Daniel was whisked away by the doctors.
Brittany leaned against the wall. Her legs were very weak.
Her eyes were filled with confusion and terror.
Isaac, his heart aching, moved towards her, intending to wipe her tears away, but Brittany slapped his hand away. "Isaac, can your family’s problems stop involving my son!"
That was the second time she had said something like that.
Isaac was taken aback. He hadn't expected Leda to lay a hand on Daniel, let alone with such brutality. "I will get justice for him."
Brittany's eyes were red-rimmed. She glared at Isaac, wishing she could erase him from her life.
"And how are you planning on doing that?" Brittany scoffed. "You think you can take on Marcel Salter? Or maybe you plan on making whoever did this pay double for Daniel’s injuries?"
