Originally, she could've dodged the bullet, but thanks to Alec, she was likely to get an earful again. Alec stood off to the side, completely indifferent, like none of this was his problem. He figured Fiona needed a good wake-up call this time. Otherwise, she might start believing that her skills alone could get her out of any jam.
"Mom, Dad, Fiona already realizes she messed up. She promises it won't happen again," Alec chipped in.
Fiona gave her mom the most pitiful look she could muster. In their family, her mom adored Fiona, and her dad adored her mom. Basically, Fiona was living the sweet life. As long as she didn’t upset her mom, her dad wouldn't ever think of disciplining her with his slipper.
Sophie cast a dramatic look at Colby and said, "Colby, what do you think? Looks like our daughter really gets it this time. Should we let it slide or not?"
"There's another option—let me handle her punishment," chimed in James, his voice cutting through the air.
The second Fiona heard him, she felt a shiver run down her spine. James had somehow snuck up behind them, a plan already laid out in his hand.
Colby frowned, "And why should you be the one to punish my daughter?"
Fiona nodded vigorously like a bobblehead. "Yeah, exactly! Dad's totally right!"
"Because I'm her godfather," James declared.
"A godfather's just that—a godfather, not her real dad."
"If Fiona wants, I can be her real dad too."
The air was thick with tension between the two men. Sophie quickly stepped in, "Alright, enough of this! I'll take care of disciplining Fiona. You guys just step aside!"
With that, Sophie ushered Fiona upstairs.
