Once Sophie found out she was pregnant, Harold made a special effort to bring William over. In the cozy living room, Sophie was lounging on the couch, while Colby was busy with some prenatal storytelling for the baby. Even little Danny was begrudgingly perched in his baby chair, fighting off sleep as he listened to Colby’s tales.
When Sophie saw that the doctor Harold had brought in was William, she was momentarily taken aback. "William?"
Harold jumped in to clarify, "I brought William over to keep an eye on you. He'll be handling the check-ups and all, so we can breathe a little easier."
"But..."
Sophie turned to William, asking, "Are you an obstetrician?"
The question seemed to knock William off balance for a moment. "Uh... Yeah, sure, I am."
"But I thought you were a surgeon?"
"Uh? Oh..."
Clearing his throat, William replied, "You know how it is, a jack of all trades and all that. I've been diving into obstetrics lately and picked up quite a bit. I can definitely look after you and the baby, no worries!"
"You're still learning obstetrics?"
"Yep!"
"Are you sure you get it?"
Facing Sophie’s doubt, William asserted, "I’m a top-notch doctor, remember? Jack of all trades!"
Harold added his two cents, "I've dabbled in some obstetrics myself; it's really not rocket science."
Yeah, right.
Harold had managed to make sense of a few parenting books when he was looking after little Danny. But when Sophie got pregnant, he tried his hand at some medical textbooks on obstetrics.
And found himself utterly lost.
