Elodie spoke slowly, "When Joseph left everything behind and walked away from the Burke family, even with his business acumen, it was impossible for him to have the capability and wealth to plan against the big four families within just a few years. There must have been a strong backer supporting Joseph. He once told me, 'Fortunes change, and so do people's hearts. Who could have guessed that person would have the last laugh?'"
Listening to Elodie's seemingly disconnected words left everyone puzzled.
Sophie asked, "So, who do you suspect?"
"If you're asking me, my suspicion falls on… Wesley."
The moment she mentioned the name, everyone was stunned.
Their gazes quickly shifted to Adler.
Adler was flabbergasted, "My dad? How is that possible? My dad is just an old-fashioned man, not the best in business, and the least influential among the big families. To say he's unambitious would be putting it nicely! He's just a stubborn old rock. How could he possibly be the man behind The Silent Shadows?"
"Don't underestimate your dad. Now, everyone in the big families, including Sophie and Colby, as well as Gordon's parents, have faced disasters, yet the only issue in the Tredgold family is a mad Mrs. Tredgold. Your dad has always kept a low profile, but managed to stay unscathed till the end. I think the person Joseph referred to back then must be your father," Elodie explained.
Then, she changed her tone, "Of course, this is just my speculation, and I might be overthinking. But if it's really him, you're in for even more trouble."
"It's impossible. If the person behind this was really my dad, how could he possibly harm people from the big families?"
Adler refused to believe such a ludicrous scenario.
