Before Sophie could react, Jonah had already pushed her to the ground in a protective maneuver.
The situation unfolded too abruptly.
Sophie's body couldn't even muster a response before a series of bullets pierced through Jonah's flesh.
"Jonah!"
Sophie screamed as Jonah immediately sought cover for her.
He pushed Sophie towards the dense forest ahead, where a massive tree trunk shielded her body, and the fallen timber ahead served as the perfect cover.
And soon, a bullet tore through Jonah's calf.
It all happened too suddenly.
Sophie's mind went blank, her vision clouded by the sight of blood everywhere.
Jonah was riddled with bullet holes, his blood ceaselessly flowing out.
Yet, Jonah's eyes remained wide open, fixated on something ahead, as he tightly gripped Sophie's shoulders. "Don't forget... promise me..."
As Jonah's hands slid from her shoulders, Sophie's white blouse was already drenched in blood.
"Sophie, stop playing hide and seek."
A lazy female voice reached Sophie's ears.
It was Kena's voice.
Kena chuckled, saying, "My people have surrounded this place; you can't escape."
Behind the tree, Sophie's eyes reddened, and Kena's voice kept coming from not too far away. She said, "I knew Reece wouldn't kill you, so I came to solve this problem for him."
"You once said that your lover and friends are the most important people to you, and you would never let anyone around you get hurt. How does it feel seeing your friends die for you?"
"I'm really curious, can you remain as resilient as you are now when you see your friends falling one by one?"
"Actually, I don't really want to kill you, but keeping you alive is always a threat."
"I won't allow anyone who threatens the master to exist in this world."
...
Master?
