Reece steadily closed the distance between himself and Sophie, continuing, "I always knew you were tough on the outside but soft on the heart. You say you'll never trust me again, but deep down, you're always making excuses for me, thinking I must have my reasons. I believe you still hold a sliver of trust for me, thinking I wouldn't hurt you. Sophie, your heart is too soft. Even when you force yourself to trust no one, you still believe in the goodness of this world. Should I call you naive, or just foolish?"
Past scenes involuntarily surfaced in Sophie's mind.
She was foolish, indeed.
Despite knowing that the man before her had ill intentions, she couldn't help but think he had his reasons. No matter what, she felt Reece wouldn't truly do anything to harm her.
After all, they were once friends who shared everything, who had been through life and death together.
"Do you want to kill me or capture me?"
"If you hand over S Corporation, I'll choose not to kill you. If the four major families stop meddling with The Silent Shadows, I'll no longer be your enemy. But... I know you won't agree, so I might as well get straight to the point and save us both some time."
Reece smiled slightly and said, "You should know, I understand you just as well as I understand myself."
Sophie remained silent.
"Did Odie already hand over the raw gem to you?"
"Yes."
With Reece's affirmation, Sophie finally understood why Reece had targeted them, choosing to kill her instead of capturing her.
This Odie, even more foolish than herself.
To hand over something so valuable so easily.
Without fear of betrayal after obtaining the item.
"Alright, I can give you anything you want, but I want my people... all alive."
