Sophie knew this day was bound to roll around eventually, it was just a matter of time. Colby's words were really just to reassure himself more than anything. If that day did come and they couldn't do anything about it, they'd be left vulnerable, at the mercy of others.
Colby clasped Sophie's hand, their fingers intertwining as if he was passing some of his strength to her. "Even if the future's uncertain, I'll be right there with you. No need to worry."
"I know, no matter what comes our way, you'll always be by my side."
Just then, a coughing fit interrupted their moment. They turned to see William standing awkwardly in the doorway, having turned up without them noticing.
"The door was open, so I thought I'd wait in here," William said, trying to play it off.
Sophie was taken aback. "How did you get in?"
"Well, we're overseas, right? This is kind of my turf. Everyone here knows me, so they let me in, especially since it's your check-up day. Colby and I had set a time, so they didn't stop me."
With that, William strolled in, lugging a large medical kit. Sophie frowned, "I'm almost healed!"
"Still, a follow-up is important."
"And remember we talked about the scar removal surgery? I need to check how you're healing."
Sophie had only casually mentioned it to Colby yesterday. True to form, Colby had taken it seriously.
"I didn’t really decide on the scar removal, honestly..."
"Come on, a girl's gotta take care of herself. Scar removal is a must."
