At the police station, Mr. Schuldt had already stationed himself at the entrance, knowing Sophie and Colby were on their way. When they pulled up, he wasted no time approaching them.
"Mr. Colby, ma'am, everything’s set for your questioning," he greeted them.
"Thanks, Officer Derick," Sophie replied with a nod.
"Don’t mention it. Please, follow me."
Mr. Schuldt led them to the interrogation room, where they found Colt sitting, handcuffed. After the last incident, James had brought Colt here. With Joseph no longer around, Colt was left without his usual protection. Considering all he knew about Joseph's shady dealings, it was no surprise he ended up here.
"Who else was involved with Joseph?" Sophie asked directly.
"Ms. Sophie, I’m not quite sure what you’re getting at," Colt answered, maintaining his calm demeanor.
"Really? From the documents Joseph left behind, we’ve uncovered some leads. There’s someone else besides Joseph pulling the strings. You were his right-hand man; surely you know."
"I honestly don’t know," Colt chuckled. "I’m already here, what’s the point in lying?"
"Colt, for the sake of our past acquaintance, if you name the mastermind, I promise a lighter sentence."
Unmoved, Colt replied, "Sophie, if it weren’t for you, Mr. James would’ve achieved his ambitions, and Burke International would’ve soared. You’re the last person I’d tell, even if there was someone else."
"This is pointless," Colby interjected coolly. "Sophie, let me handle this."
"Hold on," Sophie said, calming Colby. She turned to Colt, "If he doesn’t value his own life, nothing you do will make him talk."
"Dealing with smart folks is always nice. No need to over-explain," Colt laughed. "Ms. Sophie, your visit was in vain. I guarantee you won't get anything from me."
"Alright, maybe this was a waste. But I’m curious, you’re so loyal to this mysterious figure, do you really think they’ll have your back?"
With that, Sophie stood, leading Colby out of the room.
"I’ve got a way to make him talk," Colby whispered.
"Using force? It’s pointless. Colt’s been around James long enough to craft a convincing story if he wanted to deceive us, which could throw us off track."
"So, do we just let it go?"
