Finally, Colby set Sophie down from his back.
"Alright, open your eyes and tell me what you think."
Sophie opened her eyes to a warm and inviting room, a far cry from the stark black-and-white decor she was expecting. Instead, the room was a cozy cream color, filled with fluffy, adorable plush toys and a soft, beautiful sofa—exactly the kind of place a girl would love to live in.
A golden retriever bounded out from a corner, launching itself at Sophie with such enthusiasm that she could barely fend it off. "Dawn! Dawn, calm down! Okay, okay, mommy will let you lick, just one lick and then no more fuss!"
Sophie squatted down, and the golden retriever eagerly licked her cheeks several times before happily wagging its tail and sitting on the floor.
"This is our new home in Devonport," Colby said, wrapping his arms around her from behind. "After we're done with our busy schedules here, we can escape to the mountains for a few quiet days. If you want to stay in the city, we'll come back. Wherever you want to go, I'll always be with you."
"So, does that mean if I fall in love with a place, you'll buy a house there for me?" Sophie teased.
"It's not out of the question," Colby replied with a grin.
"But we shouldn’t be so wasteful with money."
Sophie turned around, hugging Colby tightly. "One home is enough for us."
"Alright," he said, stroking her hair.
"You should go take a shower. I'm exhausted," Sophie said, playfully nestling in Colby's embrace.
"Let's shower together," Colby suggested.
