Chapter 211
Christian refused to leave.
Gabriel shot Stephen and Bianca a withering glare. “What the hell are you two gawking at? Pack his stuff and get him out now. I can’t stand the sight of this muddle–headed idiot!”
Daniella was clearly out to make the Gibson family live a living hell.
She latched onto anyone who’d help her and stirred up drama nonstop.
If she hadn’t kicked over her own food, would she be starving?
Stephen rushed to yank Christian away.
The second he turned, Christian’s bloodshot eyes overflowed with tears.
His father had never laid a hand on him like that before.
‘Our family used to be picture–perfect–doting parents and caring kids. When has it all gone to shit? Or is this their true nature, laid bare now that their interests have crumbled?‘ Christian thought.
Just as they reached the door, Abigail and Wyatt walked in.
Wyatt spotted Christian’s tears first and stepped forward. “What happened?”
“Since when do you give a damn? Stick to babysitting your granddaughter. The rest of us aren’t your problem. You might as well pretend we don’t exist.” Christian snarled, his anger spiking at the sight of them.
Abigail frowned, but Stephen whispered to Christian, “Think yelling helps? Let’s go.”
Christian pulled on his shoes and trailed Stephen outside.
Once they were clear of the villa, Stephen said, “No offense, but Dad wants Daniella to own up to her crap. He wants her to suffer like Abigail did, not use you as her pawn to fight him.”
Christian tried to interrupt, but Stephen barked, “That’s your issue–always jumping in mid–sentence. Go ahead, talk. I couldn’t care less.”
Christian clamped his mouth shut.
Stephen went on, “Jesus, get it through your head. Dad’s as stubborn as a mule. The more you rebel, the surer he is that Daniella’s pulling your strings.”
Wasn’t Daniella using Christian to fight Gabriel just another way of rebelling?
In Gabriel’s eyes, she’d lied; destroyed his real daughter’s life, and now had the nerve to challenge him?
Christian clammed up. ‘I definitely acted on impulse today,‘ he thought.
Stephen said, “Now the maids can say anything. Who in this house doesn’t know what we did to Abigail back then?”
Stephen let out a sigh. “We didn’t want to end up in jail, so we had to send the culprit to jail. You’re still taking the culprit’s side. Of course, Dad’s pissed off.”
“After I leave, promise me you’ll look after Dani.” Christian just couldn’t shake his worry.
Stephen’s expression turned deadpan. “I’m talking to you like family. Don’t make trouble. I can’t stand her either. Don’t ask me for help. I won’t do it.”
“Stevie.” Christian’s voice cracked with pleading. “Just this one time.”
“Not gonna happen. Look at what Daniella did to this family. If she hadn’t faked depression and killed someone, would we be accessories? Would our lives be this fucked up? Have you lost your mind?” Stephen snapped.
“Stevie.”
“Cut it out. I’m not waiting on Her Highness. Serve her food and she’ll still give me attitude. She hasn’t accepted reality. If she had, she’d shut up instead of turning you against Dad.” Stephen spun around and stalked off, icy cold.
For the first time, Christian saw the truth–his family had always been this heartless.

When Stephen got home, he saw Abigail sitting on the couch watching the news and couldn’t help wondering, ‘How did Abigail put up with this for all those years?‘
Daniella had only been in this position for a few days, but she was stirring up drama every day.
Now Gabriel came home just to yell and throw punches.
