Running to the Savages for help now would be disastrous. In the best-case scenario, they would ignore the situation while using it as an excuse to break off the engagement. At worst, they might pull strings behind the scenes to get Diana a harsher sentence.
This would then give them the perfect justification to back out of the marriage agreement, and they would not seem dishonorable to the outsiders.
"We barely interact with the Savages as it is. Suddenly asking for their help would be pointless." Joe weighed the bigger picture. Approaching the Savages now would be a great mistake.
Yvonne kept quiet, but she smirked a little when no one was looking. She had expected Joe's reaction. Suggesting Yolanda ask Gavin for help had been a calculated move as well. The impossibility of approaching the Savages would only show how useless Yolanda was.
"So you really are worthless after all!" Paul rolled his eyes at Yolanda before turning to Joe and said, "Uncle Joe, don't worry. I've already called my girlfriend. She'll be here soon."
Paul could not resist showing off his girlfriend, who was the daughter of the Sheriden family. He also saw an opportunity to have Joe owe him one. That way, Joe and his family would have to remember his favor whether for future business advantages or when Vivian's estate was divided up.
Joe saw right through Paul's scheme. But with Diana's freedom at stake, he could not afford to be picky. He managed a strained smile and said, "Thank you for your help then."
"Don't worry! The Sheridens have extensive connections in Riverdale!" Alice chimed in. "Once my future daughter-in-law gets involved, this will be sorted out in no time. Diana will be home before you know it!"
Joe's worried expression eased a little at their words. While the Sheriden Corporation was not quite top-tier in Riverdale, they still had considerable influence. Maybe their heiress really could get Diana out of this mess.
