Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 691

“Christian, you’re calling my daughter a liar? If she was scheming enough to trick your family out of Julian’s corneas, do you really think you would’ve been able to bully her like you did back then?”

Shelly had never said a word before, but that didn’t mean she was oblivious. The way the Graysons had treated Madeline—that was etched deep in Shelly’s memory now. It still hurt, and it still made her furious.

Christian let out a sharp, humorless bark of a laugh. “Save it. You and your daughter are both the same.”

Shelly’s eyes went icy, her whole presence turning to winter. “Christian, hate me if you want. Say whatever you like about me. But you keep your words clean when it comes to my daughter. She’s done nothing wrong. You don’t get to insult her.”

All Christian could think about was how Julian had lost himself over Madeline. Julian was ready to throw everything away for her. If Christian had known things would end up like this, he would never have let Madeline near Julian in the first place. Now, regret just gnawed away at his insides.

Lucy was the last one to rush in, her face full of worry. “Dad, where’s Julian? Where is he?”

Right then, the doors to the operating room swung open. A doctor stepped out, pausing as he looked over the crowd gathered at the door.

Everyone stared at him, hardly daring to breathe while they waited for news.

Christian had already guessed what the answer would be. He was so desperate, he couldn’t even bring himself to ask.

The doctor took a small pause, obviously feeling the weight of everyone’s eyes. “The surgery is finished.”

“Julian, Julian…my son…,” Lucy choked out, stumbling over her words. She staggered, nearly passing out as panic overtook her.

Brady’s jaw tensed. “Mrs. Grayson!”

Christian just lowered his head, completely lost in despair.

Madeline was brought out first, lying motionless in the hospital bed with gauze wrapped around her eyes. The anesthesia was still in effect; she hadn’t woken up yet.

Brenda hurried to her side, her eyes red and watery. “Madeline?”

The doctor spoke gently. “She’ll wake up once the anesthesia wears off.”

Brenda nodded immediately. “Alright. Okay.”

Shelly turned to Luke, her expression complicated as she looked at her daughter. “Luke, go pick up Madeline.”

Luke didn’t say a word, just walked forward and carefully lifted Madeline from the bed.

Shelly glanced at Christian, her tone even and calm. “I’m here today just to bring my daughter home. I’m taking her now. When Julian wakes up, please let him know—everything he owed Madeline is cleared as of today.”

That was what Madeline had asked Shelly to say for her.

Christian’s face clouded over, his jaw set so hard the muscles jumped. “Got what you wanted and now you’re just going to run off?”

Shelly didn’t bother explaining herself any further. She just looked at Madeline with tender, aching eyes.

Her daughter was the real fool here.

“Let’s go.” Shelly didn’t look at anyone else again. She just turned away, leading the way out.

Christian snapped, “Don’t let them leave. Stop them!”

Casey took his time, stepping in front of Shelly as several people moved to block her. He shot the group a casual glance, completely unfazed. “I’d like to see anyone try.”

Shelly took one last look back, then told Luke, “Go.”

No hesitation—they hurried away with Madeline.

Christian’s breathing turned rough, agony tightening his chest. Julian’s corneas were in Madeline’s eyes now, and the Ballards were walking out the door with her. The whole thing felt like a cruel joke.
