Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 638

“We really can’t stay here any longer. It’s time to go.”

If they didn’t leave now, the old man would only end up in trouble because of them.

Luke reached out to steady Madeline. “Hey, Maddie, does this mean we’re in this together now? Like, sharing all the ups and downs?”

Madeline’s lips curled into a tiny, tired smile. “So does that mean I’m supposed to share my future fortune with you too?”

Luke just grinned. “If I ever make any money, it’s all yours.”

She laughed quietly. “Thanks, but I have a feeling your future wife might not like that.”

Just then, the old man came back into the room. He noticed their bags and the anxious look in their eyes and set his things down as he walked over. “You two are leaving already?”

Madeline nodded. “Grandpa Howard, thank you so much for letting us stay. The people chasing us are already close. We can’t risk putting you in danger. We have to go.”

The old man sighed, scanning his small, cluttered house. He clearly wished he could do more, but he just nodded. “I wish I could help more, but there’s only so much I can do. You’ll have to be careful from now on.”

“Thank you. For everything,” Madeline said softly.

“No need to thank me, just get moving. The paths are slick. Watch your step. And you—especially—you can’t see very well right now, so be extra careful.”

Madeline gave another small nod. “I will.”

Luke crouched down as if to give her a piggyback ride, but Madeline stopped him with a shake of her head. “If you carry me, your shoulder injury will open up and you’ll lose more blood. Just hold my hand and walk in front. I trust you to lead the way, Luke.”

He nodded, a gentle seriousness in his eyes. “Alright, let’s go.”

Julian and his team switched to a helicopter and soon touched down at the base of the mountain, exactly where the coordinates pointed. The path ahead twisted through thick brush and rocky slopes. They had no idea where Madeline was in this wild forest. All they could do was search, step by step, and hope for a miracle.

Julian stared out at the dark, rain-soaked mountain slopes. “I don’t care what it takes. Find her. If you have to tear this whole mountain apart, do it.”
