“I was going to go, but you…”
Lucy waved her hand. “Don’t worry about me. I’m in a wheelchair anyway. I can handle it.”
Honestly, she was curious to finally meet the woman who had turned the Grayson family upside down. It was way too much.
While they were talking, the door opened.
Julian stepped inside, wrapped in a dark coat.
“Daddy,” the boys called out together.
Julian just nodded. “Hey.”
Madeline turned, her eyes meeting his for a moment.
Lucy arched an eyebrow. “What are you doing here?”
Julian tilted his chin. “Came to pick them up.”
His eyes landed on Madeline’s neck. His expression shifted, growing cold. He walked straight over, brows knit in concern. “What happened?”
He seemed so tense, towering over her like that. Madeline lowered her gaze. His reaction felt a little over the top. It was just a scratch.
“It’s nothing. I just got cut by accident.”
Julian’s expression sharpened. He wasn’t convinced. “Did something happen?”
Madeline let out a breath and nodded. “I ran into Andrew.”
Julian’s eyes turned icy. “He still hasn’t learned.”
Madeline’s gaze flickered. “I explained everything about the impostor. He’s smart. He’ll figure it out himself. He has no reason to keep bothering me.”
“She mentioned the Ballard family is throwing a party in two days. That’s actually true. Rumor is, they’re doing it to announce Ms. Ballard’s return and reveal who she really is.”
Helene’s eyes flickered. She scrambled to her feet, rushing up to him. “What does the Ballard family have to do with me? All I know is, Madeline is my enemy. It’s her, always her!”
She screamed at him, voice shaking. “How can you be so useless? She feeds you a few lines and you buy it? Don’t be so naive.”
Andrew closed his eyes for a second, then grabbed her chin. “Let me ask you, what if that person really exists?”
Helene glared back, furious, and slapped his hand away. “Even if she does, my only enemy is still Madeline. I want her gone.”
Andrew laughed coldly and put out his cigarette. “That’s your problem, not mine. I just want to find out who hurt my kid. Whoever did it, that’s who I’m after. Your grudge with Madeline has nothing to do with me.”
Helene stared at him, her voice trembling. “So you really fell for her lies.”
She let out a shaky breath. “Fine. We’ll see if this person she’s talking about is real. Two days, right? Palmer and Fortner both got invitations. We’ll go together and see what’s true and what’s not.”
