Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 509

Julian’s voice cut through the room, calm and cold.

Maxwell glanced at the two women in front of him. They looked exactly alike. He cleared his throat and asked, “Mr. Grayson, which one is your wife?”

As soon as he spoke, Julian’s eyes flicked between the two women. Suddenly, everyone was watching the three of them.

Julian turned to face the women, taking a closer look at their faces. Claire’s hands tensed at her sides. Whether Julian could really tell who his wife was didn’t seem that important. After all, how could anyone be sure the woman he’d married was the real one from the start?

Claire tried to keep her composure, but with Julian’s icy gaze fixed on her, she felt her whole body tighten. His stare was relentless, pressing down on her so hard that her knees almost gave out.

Madeline blinked, watching Julian stand in front of the fake Madeline. Her chest tightened with anxiety.

Had Julian made a mistake too? Did he really think that woman was her?

Maxwell, at this point, could only tell them apart by the pendant. He noticed Julian had stopped in front of the woman with the pendant and asked, “Mr. Grayson, is this your wife?”

Julian let out a cold chuckle, the sound sharp and dismissive. But it wasn’t Maxwell he was mocking. It was the woman in front of him.

“No matter how good the plastic surgery is, a fake is still a fake,” Julian said, his voice laced with sarcasm and disdain.

The moment those words left his mouth, he reached out and took Madeline’s hand in his. She looked up at him, surprised.

Julian turned, really seeing her for the first time. She looked pale, her face drawn and tired. Being betrayed by the people she trusted most would do that to anyone.

He noticed the pain written on her face, and his brows drew together. He leaned in a little, his voice soft. “Did they hurt you?”

Madeline pressed her lips together. Somehow, just knowing Julian had recognized her, without even a second of doubt, made her chest ache with relief. The hurt she’d been holding back threatened to overflow.

For a moment, she let go of everything she’d been holding in. She didn’t have to be strong anymore. After being alone for so long, someone had finally chosen her, stood by her side without hesitation.

Maybe things would be okay.

She shook her head. “No.”

Julian’s dark eyes filled with something gentle, almost protective. “It’s all over your face.”
