Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 493

Early the next morning, Madeline woke up to find herself alone in bed. She couldn’t remember when she’d drifted off, but now the space next to her was empty. She sat up fast, glancing around the room, half-expecting to see Julian, but he was gone.

On the sofa by the big windows, she spotted a neatly folded set of clean clothes. Madeline rubbed her forehead. Julian had left again, and it was pretty clear he really did mean for her to stay here for a while.

With nothing else to do, she headed to the bathroom to wash up, then changed into the fresh clothes. She took a long, steadying breath, trying to push down the restless nerves inside her.

Downstairs, the innkeeper and his wife were already up, just like always, breakfast ready and waiting. The owner’s wife called her over with a warm smile.

“Madeline, come eat with us,” she said, sounding way more friendly than yesterday.

Madeline walked over. “Good morning, Celia.”

“Morning, dear. Sit down, have some breakfast.”

She took the utensils Celia handed her and thanked her quietly.

“You and your husband seem really close,” Celia said, chatting as she poured tea. “He came all the way out here so late last night just to see you. We wondered who it could be at that hour.”

Madeline hesitated. “Celia, he’s not actually my husband.”

“Oh? Boyfriend then?”

“No... ex-husband.”

Celia blinked, surprised. For a second, she looked like she couldn’t believe it. “You two are divorced? How come? Did he cheat? He’s so good-looking, and rich too, I bet there are girls all around him...”

As soon as gossip started, Celia got more and more worked up.

Her husband handed her a peeled egg. “Eat your breakfast. Why are you grilling her like that?”

Celia caught herself, laughing awkwardly. “Sorry, I’m being nosy. I’ll stop. Madeline, eat up.”
