Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 482

“You don’t want to talk about it?”

“We were married for three years. Did you never notice the scar here?”

Julian was completely thrown by how suddenly Madeline’s mood had turned cold.

She gave him a faint smile and nodded. “Makes sense, I guess.”

She could count on one hand how many times they’d actually shared a bed during these three years. Each time, Julian kept things brisk and impersonal. No foreplay, no romance, just a quick start and a quick finish. It always felt more like a chore than anything else, so of course he’d never notice anything different about her.

That’s why, all these years later, he was only now seeing the scar on her lower back.

He’d asked her how she got it.

Madeline’s smile turned a little bitter.

She’d gotten it for him.

It wasn’t some dramatic act of love, and Madeline had never wanted to use it as leverage, never tried to make Julian feel guilty because of it.

She hadn’t told him then, and she hadn’t brought it up in all the years since. Now that he was asking, she honestly didn’t even know where to start.

Madeline just smiled and leaned in close. “Why don’t you try guessing?”

Julian’s dark eyes narrowed in suspicion, but Madeline used the moment to slip away from his arms. She got off the bed on the far side, tying her robe with quick, practiced hands.

Putting a little space between them, she glanced at Julian, her eyes sliding downward before she blushed and quickly looked away. “Go handle it yourself… in the bathroom.”

The chance he’d just lost wasn’t even on Julian’s mind. He kept thinking about Madeline’s sudden chill and those words she’d thrown at him. “We were married for three years. Did you never notice the scar here?”

Three years.

He really hadn’t noticed. If he was honest, he’d just never paid attention.

Still burning from earlier, Julian turned and headed into the bathroom to take a cold shower.

With her own emotions back under control, Madeline glanced toward the bathroom. A cold shower in this weather? Only someone as tough as Julian could stand that. Just thinking about it gave her goosebumps.

Then she remembered the cut on his arm. She couldn’t stomach the thought of him ignoring it and letting it get infected, especially since he’d gotten hurt saving her.
