Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 406

“Ms. Mullins, please calm down. He is hurting too,” Miles said, stepping in to pull Brenda away from Julian.

Brenda collapsed onto the sand, her face streaked with tears as she sobbed. “What did Madeline ever do to deserve any of this? What did she get from being with you? This is all your fault. Every bit of it. Why are you kneeling here, pretending you care? You never cherished her when she was here, and now that she’s gone, suddenly you’re acting like you loved her?”

Something in Brenda’s words hit Julian hard. The look in his eyes turned icy as he finally met her gaze. “She’s not dead,” he said, his voice steady and stubborn. “She’s just angry with me, so she’s hiding. I’ll find her. I will bring her home.”

He kept repeating it in his mind. Madeline was just mad, just refusing to forgive him. Once her anger faded, she’d come back. If she came back, he would give her anything. His time, his life, whatever she wanted. He would give her everything, as long as she came back.

Suddenly, a phone rang. Miles quickly checked his own, then hurried over. “Boss, it’s your son calling.”

Julian took the phone automatically and held it to his ear. His son’s small voice came through, flat and distant.

“Daddy, we’re not leaving anymore. Just bring Mommy home.”

Three nights earlier, Casey had brought the kids back to the Grayson house, probably to keep them away from all the chaos. Even if they didn’t know the details, both boys knew something was seriously wrong. Today, someone had told them the truth. Their mom wasn’t coming back.

They didn’t believe it. The two of them had thrown a huge tantrum, clinging to the hope that their dad would fix everything and bring their mom home.

Hearing his child’s voice nearly broke Julian. He sucked in a shaky breath before managing to reply. “Okay. I will bring Mommy home. I promise.”
