As Julian kissed Madeline, his mind kept replaying the image of her hugging Casey, her smile so bright and warm. The thought made his blood boil.
He finally let go of her, and in the next instant, she slapped him. Twice. Hard.
Julian stared at her, his gaze cold and sharp, his anger barely contained. Her cheeks were flushed with fury. “So, you’re really planning to leave with him? Just take the kid and go?”
Madeline froze. She didn’t answer.
“Tell me. Is that what you want?”
She pushed at his chest, shoving him with everything she had. “Let me go.”
“Julian, I said let me go.”
He didn’t move. He just stood there, solid as a wall. “Didn’t you say you wanted to make me regret everything? Didn’t you say you were innocent back then? Prove it. Show me the evidence. Until you do, you’re not taking the kid anywhere.”
“So what, you want to trap me here in the Capital forever? Just keep me by your side like this? You think I’ll never find out the truth, or are you just convinced I’m lying?”
“What if I want to leave? What gives you the right to stop me?”
Julian’s face was tight with anger. He couldn’t hide it.
She’s so stubborn.
“I want to leave you. I don’t want to see you with Helene anymore. I’m done with all of this.” Madeline shoved him with another burst of strength, finally breaking free. “You don’t get to control my life.”
Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears, but she refused to let them fall.
