“You’re the one who hurt my child, right?”
Madeline’s eyes were lowered, her voice calm, almost as if she were asking about the weather. But there was something so cold beneath that calm, it made the air around them feel icy.
Helene’s eyes were wide with terror, her whole body shaking as she shook her head over and over. “No, it wasn’t me. I swear, I didn’t do it. You’ve got the wrong person. I didn’t even know you had another kid… please, it wasn’t me…”
She would never admit it. She was terrified, her heart pounding out of control. Madeline looked like she could kill her without a second thought. Staring into Madeline’s eyes, Helene felt like the knife pressing right against her throat was ready to cut at any second.
“Madeline, please, let me go. I didn’t do anything… If you touch me, Julian will never let this go. The Fortner family won’t either. You need to think about what you’re doing… ah—”
A stabbing pain ripped through Helene’s thigh. She looked down, eyes wide in disbelief, and saw Madeline’s knife buried deep in her leg.
She went silent for a moment, her mouth hanging open. Then, suddenly, a scream tore out of her, sharp and desperate.
“Ah! Madeline… you’re crazy, you’re completely insane!”
“I won’t forgive you. I’ll never let this go. Just wait and see…”
Blood was pouring from her leg, soaking her clothes. Helene was trembling so hard she could barely speak. She had no idea what Madeline would do next. Would she actually kill her? Was this just the beginning? Was she going to die here?
Every second felt unpredictable and dangerous. The fear of having her life in someone else’s hands, not knowing what would happen next, was enough to make her panic completely.
Madeline just stared, her expression cold and distant. She pulled the knife out. Blood sprayed everywhere, but Madeline didn’t even flinch.
The pain hit Helene again, sharp and overwhelming. She gasped, struggling to breathe.
Madeline tilted Helene’s chin up with the bloody blade, her eyes dark and angry. “Didn’t I warn you? Didn’t I tell you not to mess with me, not to touch anyone close to me?”
“…You did… you did…”
