Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 301

Helene fired question after question at Madeline, her voice sharp, acting like she was standing up for Lucy. But really, all she wanted was to stall for time. She was terrified that the kid inside wasn’t dead yet.

Madeline took a shaky breath. “Mrs. Grayson, please… I’m begging you. My child might be in there. Let us have a look…”

Before she could say more, a faint tapping sound echoed from within the room.

“Mommy,” Oliver called out, his voice trembling.

Madeline’s heart skipped a beat. She broke free of Lucy’s grasp and hurried to the door, pressing her ear against it, straining to listen. Her eyes widened. “Julian, I heard something. There’s really someone in there.”

Julian tightened his fists. “Open the door.”

“Don’t do it!” Lucy snapped.

The whole room went silent. Miles and the staff stood frozen, too scared to make a move. No one knew what to do.

Julian’s cold gaze swept over Lucy’s face. Lucy was shaking with anger. “Julian, everything in that room belonged to your father. Are you really going to barge in for this woman and break my heart?”

“I’m sorry, Mom. No one’s going to ruin Dad’s things. But if there’s a kid in there, we can’t just stand by. This is a life. We have to help.”

Helene’s face turned pale. She jumped in, “Ms. Monroe, maybe you misheard. None of us heard anything.”

Oliver spoke up right away. “There was a sound. I promise, I heard it too.”

Madeline’s voice was frantic. “Julian, please…”

Julian’s brow furrowed. “Miles.”
