"The people who took Noah got into that car. He was inside. There’s only one way they could have gotten him out without being seen. The cameras had a one-minute blind spot, and there’s that foam box. Julian, no matter how you look at it, Noah is in real danger." Madeline spoke quickly, her words tumbling out in a rush.
Julian saw the panic in her eyes. His face grew serious, his voice low and steady. "Stay here. I’ll send people to search."
Madeline held his gaze for a long moment. "Send them with me."
She couldn’t calm down, not until she saw her son with her own eyes.
Madeline sprinted out of the room and nearly ran into Lucy, who had come over after hearing all the noise in the house. The moment Lucy saw Madeline, her face darkened.
"Madeline—"
Madeline didn’t even slow down. She was too anxious to stop or explain and just hurried past Lucy.
Lucy was left standing there, fuming at being ignored. "She—"
Julian walked out next, striding right past her. Lucy’s voice was sharp. "What are you doing?"
"We’re looking for someone," Julian replied without stopping, already moving away.
Now she’d been ignored twice in a row. Lucy’s expression turned even more sour. She caught a passing housekeeper. "What’s going on? Why is everyone so frantic?"
"Ma’am, I think Ms. Monroe’s child is missing. She says Mr. Grayson took him and came here to get him back."
"Her child? Which child? She has a kid?"
"I don’t know, ma’am."
"Julian took him? That’s ridiculous." Lucy frowned, her suspicion growing. "Take me to them, right now."
In the kitchen’s walk-in cold storage, the staff had just finished hauling out the newly delivered boxes, following Julian’s orders. When Madeline arrived, she spotted the boxes on the floor. Her heart skipped. She rushed over and grabbed a knife, slicing through the tape as fast as she could.
She was so desperate that she didn’t even react when the blade nicked her finger.
