Aiden's POV
I dropped my smile and strode over to her in three quick steps, crouching down beside her. "Did you hurt yourself?"
Aria didn't answer, just stayed curled up in that vulnerable position on the stairs.
Her silence made my blood run cold. My mind immediately went to her right leg—the one that had barely healed from her previous injury. If she'd damaged it again, the consequences could be permanent.
"We're going to the hospital," I said firmly, reaching to scoop her up.
The doctors had warned me her bones hadn't fully healed. Another injury could mean she'd walk with a limp for the rest of her life—something I wouldn't allow to happen on my watch.
With the awkward way she was huddled on the stairs, lifting her would be tricky. One wrong move and we'd both tumble down. I frowned, gently trying to pry her arms from around herself.
"Let's get you checked out. Be good now."
She finally lifted her head, those expressive eyes meeting mine. "I'm so embarrassed!"
Relief washed through me—if she was worried about embarrassment, the injury couldn't be that serious. I allowed myself a small smile as I gazed down at her flushed face.
"What's there to be embarrassed about? I'm the only one who saw."
My comment only made her cheeks burn brighter.
"Can't you just go away, Aiden?" she mumbled, refusing to look at me.
God, she was adorable. How could someone so graceful and accomplished at the piano transform into this endearing, awkward creature around me? The contrast was fascinating.
"If you stay crouched like that, you'll get dizzy when you stand," I warned her. "And since you're on the stairs... can you guarantee you won't fall? Is your pride worth risking your safety?"
She bit her lip in that way that always made my cock twitch. Finally abandoning her defensive posture, she looked up at me with those wide, innocent eyes. "Aiden, do you think I'm like a clumsy penguin?"
"Not at all."
I watched her visible relief, waiting just long enough before adding: "More like a fumbling little bunny."
The indignation that flashed across her face was priceless. Christ, she was cute when she pouted. I wanted to devour that full bottom lip she was worrying between her teeth.
She attempted to stand then, and I rose with her, noticing immediately how she swayed.
"Dizzy?" I steadied her with my hands on her waist, drawing her against me.
Her body pressed against mine, warm and soft in all the right places. I could feel every delicate curve through the thin fabric of her clothing. Her scent—that intoxicating mix of vanilla and something uniquely her—filled my nostrils as she leaned heavily against me.
After several seconds, her eyes cleared, but I didn't loosen my hold. Why would I, when having her this close felt so damn good?
"Better now?" I murmured, deliberately lowering my voice to that register I knew affected her.
She nodded but didn't pull away. "Yes... thank you."
My hands slid from her waist to the small of her back, one continuing downward to cup her perfect ass. "This is what happens when you run away from me, bunny," I whispered against her ear. "You hurt yourself."
She shivered against me. "Aiden..."
"You know what I was thinking when I saw you checking me out earlier?" I pressed my hardening cock against her hip, making sure she felt exactly what effect she had on me. "Can't stop thinking about bending you over the sofa."
