Too Late, Mr. Cooper: Your Bride Ran with Your Baby novel Chapter 6

But she was used to it.

Eleanor Cooper had never liked her. Even when Liliana had done nothing wrong, Mrs. Cooper would find fault, just for the chance to mock her.

Liliana’s gaze turned icy.

In the past, Mrs. Cooper had frequently berated and insulted her under the guise of 'discipline.' For Linton's sake, she had tolerated it.

But now, she didn't even want Linton anymore. Who the hell did his mother think she was, pointing fingers at her?

Liliana's red lips curved into a smile as she walked straight toward Mrs. Cooper. "My, my. If the Cooper family truly had a sense of shame, would you be scheming every day to have your precious daughter marry your son?"

Her words, designed for maximum shock, landed like a bomb.

The once-lively living room fell silent, the air thick with tension.

Everyone held their breath, looking on with the avid curiosity of spectators at a drama. They assumed Miss Hart was just having another jealous, spoiled tantrum over the Cooper's adopted daughter.

They had seen this play out many times before.

Mrs. Cooper’s face twisted in disgust as she glared at Liliana. "Liliana, you apologize to Isabella right now!" she commanded.

"What has Isabella ever done to you to deserve such baseless accusations? She's just been widowed, and you humiliate her like this? Do you have any regard for her reputation?"

"How about you apologize to me first?"

Liliana, no longer willing to humor her, smiled coolly. "The moment I walk in, you criticize my clothes and accuse me of trying to seduce someone. Is this the standard of the Cooper family lady?"

That one simple sentence sent a flush of rage creeping up Mrs. Cooper's face.

She pointed a chubby finger at Liliana's nose, sputtering for words, her eyes wide with disbelief.

When had Mrs. Cooper ever been so slighted?

Usually, the slightest hint of her displeasure was enough to have Liliana rushing over to apologize and beg for forgiveness.

For Linton's sake, Liliana, despite her own pride as an heiress, had to swallow it and grovel like a lapdog.
