"Apologize to Liliana."
Mrs. Cooper stared in disbelief.
"Apologize to her? On what grounds? Why should I? She's just a—"
"Grandpa!"
Isabella quickly cut Mrs. Cooper off before she could finish the insult. Her expression was gentle but troubled.
"Please don't blame Mom. She was just speaking out of anger. A while ago, Logan was sent to Liliana's place and accidentally broke some furniture. Liliana is demanding I pay for it, but... well, you know my financial situation, Grandpa. Eight million is just too much..."
Isabella had married into another prominent Crownport family, the Graysons. Her husband, Matthew Grayson, had treated her well. He knew she loved extreme sports, and even though he wasn't skilled, he often went with her.
Two months ago, Isabella had insisted they go skydiving. Matthew's parachute malfunctioned, and he plummeted off a cliff. His body was never found. The Grayson family was furious and blamed Isabella for his death, essentially cutting her off without a penny. If it weren't for the Coopers intervening, she would have lost custody of her son.
Unable to produce eight million dollars, Isabella had deliberately chosen to bring this up during the family dinner, hoping to blow the situation up and force Liliana to back down.
Old Mr. Cooper stroked his white beard. He was silent for a moment before looking up at Linton, who stood behind him.
"Linton, what are your thoughts on this?"
Linton was dressed casually today in a black shirt, the top button undone to reveal his elegant collarbone. His features were strikingly handsome, with a high-bridged nose and deep-set eyes that gave him an air of detachment—a stark contrast to the tender, passionate man he had been the night before.
Linton lazily lifted his gaze.
"If she can't pay it all at once, she can pay in installments. It's not a big deal."
With that single sentence, he settled the matter.
Isabella bit her lip in frustration, but with the old man present, she couldn't object. She forced a gentle smile.
