The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 1223

His breath grazed her neck, warm and thick with the metallic tang of blood. “They’re two sides of the same coin. It makes no difference.” Danielle’s heart sank, her knuckles turning white as she gripped the handlebars. “The Project 07 fighter jet… it’s connected to the truth of what happened back then.” Alexander’s voice grew softer, as if the wind might carry it away at any moment.

“The secrets they buried are starting to come to light, and they feel threatened… And then there’s you, Danielle.” He paused, mustering his last ounce of strength to add emphasis. “Talented engineers… have always been their most coveted prize.” A chill shot up Danielle’s spine, leaving her heart cold as ice. From the very beginning, she and Alexander had been completely at their mercy.

Just then, she felt a strange, concentrated warmth against her back. It wasn’t a normal body temperature; it was a scorching heat, seeping through her clothes with a terrifying stickiness. An ominous feeling crept over her. Trembling, she reached a hand behind her. Her fingertips met with warm, wet fabric. When she brought her hand back into view, it was covered in blood, a shocking, vivid red against the snow.

“Alexander!” Danielle’s voice broke, laced with a sob. The man behind her didn’t respond. The arm around her waist went completely limp, and his full weight slumped against her. Danielle’s own strength gave out, and she almost lost her grip on the handlebars. Gritting her teeth, she forced herself to steady the snowmobile as tears streamed uncontrollably down her face, blurring her vision.

Suddenly, the sharp blare of a horn cut through the storm. “Danielle! Stop! You can’t escape!” a voice boomed through a megaphone. “If you don’t stop now, today will be the day Alexander dies!” The voice paused, then continued with a sinister, persuasive tone. “Even if you get away, he’s been shot! He won’t last long! But if you stop now, he’s still useful to us. We have the best medical resources. We can save him! You know what’s more important. Is his life worth more, or is escaping with his corpse?”

The words were a blunt knife, twisting in her heart. Her speed faltered, her hands trembling on the controls. He was right. As long as he was alive, there was hope. Even if it meant falling into their hands for now… In that moment of hesitation, a fierce shout erupted from the woods to her side. “Go!” Danielle flinched and whipped her head around to see Sammie and several other figures bursting from the trees, charging straight for her pursuers.

“I’ll cover you!” Sammie’s voice was a powerful anchor in the storm. Before the words had even faded, he and his men crashed into the enemy line. A brutal fight erupted instantly. The hesitation vanished from Danielle’s eyes, replaced by steely resolve. She slammed the throttle, and the snowmobile shot forward like an arrow released from a bow, disappearing deep into the ice forest.

She drove until the sounds of the battle were completely swallowed by the blizzard. Only then did she dare to slow down, finding shelter behind a wind-swept ice cliff. She was gasping for air, every muscle in her body screaming with exhaustion. Carefully, she turned to help Alexander off the machine, but his body was a dead weight. Her own hands were so numb and stiff with cold that she had no strength left.
