Chapter 600 The Contract

Gavin’s POV

Just sign along the dotted line,” Taylor instructed. “And then the contract is complete, and you’ll officially be in business together.”

I hesitated for a moment before I signed my name along the line, but eventually I did. The second my signature was sprawled on the contract, Zachary Blackwell clapped his hands together. I looked up at him, sitting on the other side of my desk with his leg crossed over the other. A smile lit up his face as he looked between Taylor and me.

‘So, that’s a done deal then,” he said, his voice loud and proud. He holds out his hand for me to shake, and

shake it because it’s what you do during business transactions like this.

However, I couldn’t help but think that I sold my soul to the devil. I feel like I somehow did my late father i disservice by deciding to work with someone he deemed an enemy. Then again, it seemed as if my father was the true enemy in the situation.

‘We should have a celebration. Drinks on me tonight,” Zachary said. “It’ll be good to get out and maybe get to know the territory, considering I’ll be pledging myself to you at some point. We’ll need to discuss he ceremony for that and an announcement for the territory.”

‘Let’s just make one thing clear,” Taylor said, pressing his palms on the desk and leaning towards Zachary, 1 sudden bite to his words. “Just because you are now business partners with Alpha Gavin doesn’t make you any type of Alpha in this territory. Your only involvement is the Landry Foundation business, and according to the contract, you are to remain focused on the Blackwell portion of this business. Pack natters will never be your concern, and you will not come off as some kind of authority figure to anyone n this pack.”

Zachary held up his hands like he was trying to ward off a wild beast.

‘I never said I wanted to be an Alpha to anyone in this territory,” he said, defensively. “I already explained what it was I wanted and what my people and I are gaining from this.”

And your people… have they fully accepted bowing to Gavin as their Alpha?” Taylor asked, raising his

brows.

“Some aren’t pleased. They threatened to leave, and I won’t stop them if it comes down to it. There are some who are for it, though; they are loyal to me and know that this is the only way I can protect my family.”

“And

you won’t tell me who is after you so I can protect mine?” I asked, narrowing my eyes.

He’s been mentioning for days that there are people after him, and now that it’s impossible for them to hide due to the Moon Gem’s strength and aura, these people are going to come after him sooner or later. They’ve hidden for a long time due to this, and they fear for their family.

I understand that fear, and I couldn’t bring myself to walk away.

“They wouldn’t dare touch your family,” Zachary said, shaking his head. “They wouldn’t be stupid enough to go against the Landry’s. That’s why this merger is important. I’m hoping that if we are partners, they’ll

back off and leave my family alone.”

“It would be a lot better if you told me the truth,” I said, my right brow raising. “If there are people after you, we can put a stop to them.”

“Many have tried to stop them. But most failed.”

“You’re being cryptic,” I said, folding my arms across my chest.

“Sometimes it’s necessary,” Zachary murmured. “So, we’ll celebrate tonight?”

“Perhaps another night,” I said, standing up. “Tonight, I’d rather go home and spend time with my family.”

Zachary looked disappointed, but he nodded.

“Understood. It was good to see you, Alpha. Beta. We will be in touch.”

Taylor and I nodded as Zachary left my office. Taylor let out a breath and ran his fingers through his hair.

“I don’t trust him,” Taylor muttered.

“Nor do I. But you know what they say… keep your friends closer and your enemies closer.”

Taylor raised his brows, fully turning to face me.

“You find him to be an enemy?”

I let out a breath and shook my head.

“No, but he’s not a friend either. I need you to look into something for me,” I said. “Judy’s birth mom.”

Taylor raised his brows at the sudden subject change.

‘I don’t understand….”

“It’s a long story. But the shortened version is that she was an 18-year-old who ran away from home. Her family was after her, and apparently, they scared her so much that she was willing to give her daughter away to strangers she met at the hospital. Nobody knows who her family was or why she was running from them…”

“And you think it could be related?” Taylor asked, slightly taken aback.

“I don’t know. But I think it’s a good place to start,” I told him. “Are you able to do some digging?”

“Yeah, of course. I’ll see what I can find out.”

I nodded and put my hand on his shoulder, giving it a squeeze.

“Not sure what I’d do without you,” I said to him. “Thanks, man.”

Taylor nodded.

“I aim to please,” he said, giving me a sly grin.

With that, we parted ways. I went home to my family, though it was late, so I knew Matthew would be in bed by now. Judy was supposed to spend the day planning our wedding with Irene and Nan, and when I entered the parlor, all three of them were passed out on the couch.

I couldn’t help but smile as I caught a glimpse of Irene’s head on Judy’s shoulder, the two of them looking so peaceful in their slumber.

Nan was curled up on the other couch, lightly snoring, and I thought about taking a quick video for Chester. But then I saw her phone lighting up and Chester’s picture appearing on the screen. Next to it was the amount of times he called… 25.

Her phone was on silent, so she didn’t hear it or feel its vibrations. Knowing Chester, he was probably freaking out over the fact that she hadn’t returned home yet. I know I would be if it were Judy.

I grabbed Nan’s phone and pressed the talk button, putting it to my ear.

‘Chester,” I said, trying to keep my voice low so I wouldn’t wake anyone.

‘Alpha,” Chester asked, breathless and worry evident in his tone. “Where’s Nan? Why are you answering her phone?”

‘Nan’s fine. She fell asleep at the villa with Judy and Irene. I just got home…” I told him.

‘She’s sleeping?” He asked.

‘She is. Want me to send you a pic?”

I could hear him swallowing.

I thought…” his voice trailed off for a moment. “I thought something bad had happened. I was so scared.”

‘You’re her mate… you’d feel it if something bad happened,” I reminded him.

‘She blocks me from sharing that part of her. She thinks it’s weird being able to share our feelings like hat, and she wants privacy,” he muttered. “So, no… I can’t feel her.”

‘Your mate keeps you blocked?”

1

‘We are still working on things…” he muttered. “But yeah. I was on my way there right now, actually. I had to wake Emalyn up and pack her in the car. We’ll be there soon, and I’ll take Nan home.”
