Ava's heart was heavy with worry. Felicia was in no condition to handle such immense psychological pressure. She would only end up blaming herself for everything. Regret washed over Ava as she realized she never should have brought up those heavy topics. "Get some good rest, Felicia," Ava murmured before stepping out of the bedroom.
Waiting out in the hallway, Colton took one look at Ava's troubled expression and asked how Felicia was doing. Ava simply sighed and said they needed to let her rest for now.
However, sleep evaded Felicia entirely that night. She lay in bed staring blankly at the ceiling, her mind a chaotic storm. Tears slipped uncontrollably from the corners of her eyes. It was not until the early hours of the morning that she finally managed to drift into a fitful, restless sleep for barely three hours.
The next morning, Anne called to wish her a good morning. Hearing her daughter's sweet, crisp voice eased the suffocating weight in Felicia's chest. She chatted with Anne, doing her best to sound completely normal.
"Mommy, Daddy wants to talk to you," Anne chimed.
Immediately after, Max's deep, gentle voice came through the receiver. "Anne and I will come pick you up after work today."
"Just go help Anne get breakfast," Felicia replied softly.
"Alright. You should go eat something too, and remember to take your medication on time," Max reminded her.
Felicia murmured a quiet agreement.
By the time Ava came in to wake her, Felicia was already in the bathroom getting ready. When she stepped out, Ava was startled by her pale, haggard face. She walked over with a concerned frown and asked if she had trouble sleeping last night.
Felicia tried her best to act as if everything was fine, insisting she was okay, but her complexion told a different story. "I didn't sleep well last night, but I'm sure I'll sleep better tonight after I see the doctor."
