Darin suddenly asked, “Did you get to the bottom of the Roen Capital thing?”
Max just gave a quiet nod.
He didn’t look interested, and Darin pretty much knew why. “I’m telling you, you should stay out of it. Felicia isn’t the type to want someone else repaying her debts. If you try, it’s only going to blow up.”
Max’s face tightened, but he stayed silent.
Darin didn’t push it. He didn’t stick around for lunch either.

Felicia went downtown first to pick up a gift, then took Anne straight over to the Oakridge Estate apartments.
They ran into Savannah in the parking garage.
“Hello, Aunt Savannah,” Anne called out politely.
Savannah couldn’t help herself—she swept Anne up into a hug.
Honestly, watching Anne and Yara together made her wish she had a daughter of her own.
The three of them headed upstairs.
Felicia asked how Savannah was doing.
“I’m okay, I guess.”
Felicia could tell she was just going through the motions. If Savannah had really moved on, she wouldn’t sound like that.
Felicia let it go, not sure what to say.
Upstairs, Shannon and Anthony were with Jeremy, who’d just gotten home from the hospital.
Since it was almost the holidays, family members kept dropping by. Adrian had already gone back to Northwick, so Shannon was the one looking after Jeremy.
Jeremy mostly needed bed rest now. It helped that he was on break, and Anthony was handling the overseas work so Jeremy could just focus on getting better.
Felicia’s heart twisted a little when she saw how much weight Jeremy had lost.
Jeremy seemed to pick up on her guilt. “It’s just a surface injury. I’ll be fine soon.”
Back when Heather lived with the Ross family, she worked out the most. Greg wasn’t the kind to be swayed by looks, and without him around, Heather had zero motivation.
Felicia smiled. “I’ll see what I can do.”
Heather huffed. “I mean, I wouldn’t say no.”
Once they finished picking bikinis, they wandered the mall for a while, had some afternoon tea, and ended up staying for dinner.
Back at Oakridge Estate, in the study, a maid knocked and stepped in. “Sir, dinner is ready.”
Max was just calling Anne. “Anne, have you had dinner yet?”
“We’re eating now. What about you, Daddy?”
“I’m about to. When are you coming home, Anne?”
“I’m not sure. Mommy’s still out with Aunt Heather and Aunt Savannah. They won’t be back for a while.”
“Alright,” Max said. “When Mommy gets home, have her call me, okay?”
