The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 566

Her whole vibe had shifted. She was serious now, not giving him any room to argue.

Max’s dark eyes stayed locked on her.

For a long moment, neither of them spoke.

Then he finally said, gentle as ever, “Alright. I’ll do what you say.”

The way he suddenly gave in threw Felicia off. She wasn’t sure if he really meant it or if he was just trying to smooth things over.

“If that’s all, I’m heading back,” she said, reaching for the car door.

Before she could get it open, Max caught her hand. When she turned, he pulled her in close, shifting so she ended up right in his lap.

Felicia’s breath caught. “Max, what are you doing?”

He settled her there, holding her tight. While she was tense and startled, he looked calm, almost amused, his voice a low rumble. “Just let me hold you for a minute.”

He buried his face in her neck, breathing her in like he couldn’t get enough.

Felicia froze, every muscle tense. Her fingers gripped the soft cashmere beneath his coat. He was so close she could feel his heartbeat pounding, and there was no mistaking the heat between them.

His breath got warmer, heavier against her skin.

Suddenly, a wave of nausea crashed over Felicia. She frowned, trying to push it down.

Max must’ve noticed, because he let her go, his arms loosening around her.

“What’s wrong?”

Turning away, Felicia pressed a hand over her mouth, trying not to be sick. Her face had gone pale.

Max reached out, his hand soothing along her back.

He remembered the doctor’s file, and his face darkened.

“Sorry. I shouldn’t have done that.”

Felicia didn’t answer. She just reached for the door and slipped out of the car.

“It’s freezing out here. Felicia, go inside before you catch cold. And ask the housekeeper to make some coffee.”

Felicia could smell the alcohol on Greg. He must have been out with Luke, which explained why they were home so late.

“Luke, go in with Felicia, will you?”

Luke nodded and walked with Felicia toward the villa.

Once they were gone, Greg and Max had nothing more to say to each other. Greg just headed back to his car, and Max watched Felicia and Luke disappear through the iron gate.

He saw Luke take off his coat and drape it over Felicia’s shoulders. The two of them looked perfectly in sync as they walked away together.

Max watched until their figures faded from sight.

“Was Anne home today?”

Felicia nodded. “She’s already asleep.”

Luke nodded too, but his mind was somewhere else. He couldn’t stop thinking about Felicia and Max getting out of the car together. It left a dull ache in his chest. He wanted to ask her about it, but in the end, he stayed silent.
